Best Outdoor Activities for this Summer that Anyone Can Practice

With summer rapidly approaching, you might be starting to think about some fun summer activities that you can do with friends, family, or as an individual. While there are plenty of activities to choose from, not all are as fun and exciting as others, especially if they are too difficult to master. So here are 6 of the best outdoor activities for this summer that anyone can practice. All it takes is a willingness to have some fun and to start somewhere!

1. Frisbee

First up, we have the timeless classic: frisbee. This summer activity is great fun no matter what the occasion, from birthday parties to picnics, or simply as any old excuse for being out and about in the sun. Frisbee is an affordable option for anyone looking for an activity that can provide hours of fun on a low budget. Once you make the one-off purchase, you do not have to spend any more money – unless of course your frisbee gets stuck up a tree (it happens to the best of us!).

The other benefit of playing frisbee is that it does not require huge levels of skill and commitment. After just a few throws, you can pick it up quite well, and even if you are concerned about not picking it up straight away some frisbees are designed specifically to make the throwing part relatively easy.

2. Skateboarding

At some point in all of our childhoods, most of us took the chance of stepping onto a skateboard, and for some of those kids it worked out well, but for the rest, you probably ended up having a fall. Mastering the art of skateboarding is not always easy, however, when you do manage to start picking up the basics, then you quickly see how there is no sense of freedom quite like it. Consider buying a couple of second-hand skateboards and giving it a good go with some friends this summer!

It is great fun when you are out riding in the sun or even down at the beach at sunrise. This is another cost-effective summer activity, as you can buy a board fairly cheapy, especially if you are buying a used one. You can get skateboards in all shapes and sizes, so depending on what you want to focus on – for instance, whether you are more into speed or doing tricks – will help you narrow down your options.

3. Rollerblading

Rollerblading is another one of those classic summertime activities that can provide you with endless fun. If you are searching for an activity for your kids, then this can be a great one to learn as a family. However, be ready to invest in helmets, wrist pads, and knee pads so that the fun stays safe.

It can seem like a scary idea at first, but take it slow and you will be zooming around before you know it. Although if you live in a really hilly area, then this activity might not be as fun for you because the seconds it takes to go downhill equate to minutes of going uphill.

4. Beach Volleyball

Volleyball is great fun when played during the summer months, as you get to play for hours on end with your family and friends, basking in the sun and blowing off some steam. If you fancy meeting some new people, then consider joining a volleyball team. This is a great way to make new friends while staying fit and healthy. The sport is definitely a workout and so you’ll not only end up having fun, but it will benefit your cardiovascular system too. A win-win situation.

If you want to get your family moving all together, it is usually a pretty simple booking system to get yourself some courts and have some family fun. It is a great way to bond, and the level of exercise associated with beach volleyball poses great benefits to your mental wellbeing as well as physical. The downside of this popular activity is that there are frequent costs involved, for example, court fees, booking fees, and investment in equipment.

5. Paddleboarding

If you are lucky enough to live near a body of water, then stand-up paddleboarding is an absolute must-do this summer. It is a great way to get out into the water and you don’t even have to get wet if you don’t want to, but where is the fun in that? Glide across lakes or oceans and enjoy the tranquillity of the water while you watch the world around you go by from a distance.

You’ll have to rent out the equipment, but if you have your own wetsuit then this should take a bit of the extra expense off. Depending on where you are in the world, paddleboarding is not usually too expensive to do, especially if you are only doing it now and again.

6. Yoga

There will be times when you want to bring the tempo down and just relax, and yoga is the ideal activity for exactly that. It is physical enough that you will be actively engaged, but it is also peaceful enough that it gives your brain a chance to settle. Absolutely anyone and everyone can do yoga, and if you are a parent with little ones, then there are classes designed to be child-friendly and family-friendly.

The benefits of yoga are profound, with research proving time and time again how useful it is for your mental and physical health. It also teaches you/your family or any kids you have about breathing techniques and grounding your emotions. So if you are after an activity that nurtures mind, body, and soul, then this one is the one for you.
